History

Marinês e sua Gente, a fundamental name in forró, embodies the strength and joy of Northeastern Brazilian music. Born in São Vicente Ferrer, Pernambuco, Marinês (1935-2007) was one of the first women to lead a forró group and gain prominence in a male-dominated scene. Her striking voice and contagious rhythm earned her the title "Queen of Xaxado," which she carried with pride. Alongside her Gente, as her group was known, Marinês took authentic forró to stages across Brazil, spreading Northeastern culture and influencing generations of artists. Her legacy includes classics such as "Pisa na Fulô," "Alegria de Pé de Serra," and "Coração Gelado," which continue to enliven parties and inspire new talents in pé de serra forró. Marinês e sua Gente left an indelible mark on the history of forró, celebrating Northeastern identity with passion and authenticity.
