History
Hailing from Vila da Penha in Rio de Janeiro, singer-songwriter Moyseis Marques effortlessly blends samba, traditional 'pé-de-serra' forró, and Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). He began his career in 1999 in the bars of Rio's North Zone and became a prominent figure in the Lapa scene in the 2000s, as a founder of groups like Casuarina, Forró na Contramão, and Tempero Carioca. He released his first solo album in 2007, produced by Paulão 7 Cordas, and has since accumulated 7 albums, a DVD, two nominations for the Brazilian Music Award, and one for the Latin Grammy. In 2024, he won the Brazilian Music Award in the Special Project category with the Desengaiola collective. He starred in the production of Chico Buarque's 'Ópera do Malandro,' directed by João Falcão at the Theatro Municipal do Rio. He has performed and recorded with Chico Buarque, João Bosco, Paulinho da Viola, and Arlindo Cruz, among others. He is now celebrating 25 years of his career with 'Na Matriz,' a new album on Biscoito Fino, featuring 13 original compositions.
